Kesar Pedha

My little one's latest favorite is pedha. His eyes lit up at the mere mention of it..last week he asked me to buy some for him. I decided to give it try at home. They turned out very well..infact better than store bought.

Ingredients
1 litre full fat milk  (Gokul for those in maharashtra works the best)
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 tspn crushed nuts
1 tspn saffron threads/ kesar
1 tbsp warm milk
Method
1) Boil the milk and then let it simmer on low flame till it is starts solidifying. It may take upto 50 min to 1 hour. Stir continuously. After this stage mawa or khoya is formed
2) Mash this mawa using the back of the spatula or a masher.
3) Reheat the mawa in a microwave for 3 min at the interval of 1 min and stirring in between or on a non stick pan until the mawa starts leaving the pan and is able to form a soft ball
4) Remove from the pan and let it cool down completely.
5) In a bowl, mix the milk and kesar. Add this milk, sugar and chopped nuts together to the mawa.
) Mash the mixture well.
7) Form small balls shape it like pedhas. Garnish with nuts on top

Tip  You can add more flavors to this of your choice

Hats off to you for standing for an hour in the kitchen, stirring the milk and making the mava! I can't do it even if it is to make such delicious pedas...Can you send some for me please ;-P?
Wonderful Pedhas. Like the way you have decorated them.
My grandmother in law used to make these regularly. we had buffaloes and cows so milk was a plenty. These reminds me of her Pedhas.

Tempting pedhas Pradnya. If I use mawa directly, should I start from the microwaving step?
