Khaarik Pickle

Kharik is dried date. It is commonly used at my home in ladoos especially for new mom's. That is when I had it the most. My mom also makes amazing kheer using the powdered form. Anyway, I am already digressing from the subject. My elder sister recently became the proud mother of her 2nd angel.
Knowing that she would already be fed with many sweet options I decided to make this pickle for her. I had read about it in one of the cookbook's at MILs place. I will update the post with the name of the book when I check at her place again.

Ingredients
1 cup of Dried dates chopped roughly
1/2 cup coriander
1 tspn red chilly powder
1/2 tspn fenugreek seeds
1/2 tspn mustard seeds
1 tspn sugar (optional- if u prefer sweet n sour)

1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp Oil
a pinch of asafoetida
salt to taste
Method
1) In a deep frying pan heat some oil and add the mustard seeds and let it splutter.
2) Add the asafoetida, fenugreek seeds and the chopped dates  and sugar. Now let it cook till the dates soften.
3) Add chopped coriander leaves with salt, red chill powder and stir well.
4) Remove from the heat and add the lemon juice and stir well.
Serve as a condiment with any meal.
Sending this to Srivalli's condiment mela

Never heard of this pickle..thanks for the entry D!...:)
thanks both, its not very commonly known. Even my Mum was surprised to know about this pickle. Only thing is that it does not last very long, just about 5 days in refrigerator.
